GIG UP

The gig economy as an activator for employability skills in unemployed youth

ABOUT

The GIG-UP project aims at offering a new program to tackle NEET’s barriers to employment and support them in the smooth transition to the labor market, using the gig economy as an activator for employability skills.

GIG UP has contributed to the empowerment of young people who have experienced precarious work forms or have never worked before. It offers a program that reinforces and favours the development of transversal competences needed in the fast-changing world, encompassing critical thinking and creativity, adaptability, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

The Consortium made significant impact by:

– Preparing (and testing) the GIG UP program (micro-courses package, skills assessment tools), which made use of the gig economy as an activator for employability skills, entrepreneurial, and organisational skills in young adults about to enter the labor market.

– Equipping EDUCATORS from NGOs and youth associations and other professionals working with unemployed youth and/or GIG-ERs to be ready to integrate the new approach and tools into their daily activities (practitioners’ handbook).

As the project is almost over, it signifies that the GIG-UP initiative has made significant progress in achieving its objectives.

THROUGH THE PROJECT RESULTS:

R1 – GIG UP LIBRARY AND SKILLS GRID

A digital library of ready to use materials (micro-lessons, texts, games, reading materials, exercises, presentations and infographics) that educators can use with their target group.

R2 – GUIDEBOOK FOR PRACTITIONERS

A handbook to facilitate the program delivery and to increase educators’ understating of employability skills, so that they can replicate the program and use it with other participants in the future.
